Kraft, FBB or corrugated? Choosing the right board
Board choice decides how your packaging feels, what it survives, and what it costs. Here's the honest guide.
Kraft (250–310gsm)
The brown, natural-fibre workhorse. Strong for its weight, grease-tolerant with the right lamination, and reads as eco-friendly because it is — unbleached and recyclable. Best for: food boxes, bags, anything with an artisanal brand. Printing on kraft mutes colours; designs with bold, dark artwork work best.
FBB white board (300–350gsm)
Folding Box Board: bright white faces, crisp print reproduction, rigid feel. This is where colour-accurate branding lives. Best for: cosmetic cartons, retail boxes, anything where the printed design is the product's shelf presence.
Corrugated (E and B flute)
A fluted wave sandwiched between liners — engineering, not just paper. E-flute is fine enough to print on and still protective (mailer boxes); B-flute trades print smoothness for crush strength (shipping cases).
What GSM actually means
Grams per square metre — board weight, felt as sturdiness. 250gsm flexes; 350gsm snaps crisply. Heavier costs more per sheet, but on small boxes the difference per unit is often just a few naira — configure both in the catalog and compare the live prices.
Still torn? Order one sample in each board — the difference in your hands settles it faster than any article.
